Beside of his managing tasks, as President Designate he represents the EUCARPIA at Conferences and he will become its President in 2020. Supported by the IPK – a corporate member of EUCARPIA – Andreas Börner will bring the quadrennial General Congress of the association and thus the international community of plant breeders and researchers to Central Germany.
The last German President was Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. mult. Gerhard Röbbelen fom the University of Göttigen (1986-1989). He founded the German Plant Breeding Association (GPZ) as its first President. Whereas the GPZ bridges plant science and breeding in Germany, the EUCARPIA aims to promote scientific and technical co-operation in the field of plant breeding in order to foster its further development on the European level.
EUCARPIA was founded in Wageningen (The Netherlands) in 1956. The association is a non-profit organization. It has about 1000 members, EUCARPIA comprises 11 sections and a number of working groups active in specific fields of interest.
The Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research is a public non-university research institute with about 500 employees from over 30 nationalities. IPK`s mission is to study crop biodiversity for a better understanding of crop plant performance as a foundation for Bioeconomy in the time of global change. IPK is a leading institute in cereal genome analysis.
