„IMPACCT“, the name of the research project, stands for „IMproving PAtient Centered Communication Competences“. It is coordinated by the University Hospital Groningen in the Netherlands, and partners from Ireland, Belgium, Italy and Slovakia are also involved. Prof. Dr. Lippke and her team lead the development of individual lessons for an overall education programme, but participate in all parts.
The partners are working together to enrich the training of future healthcare providers in Europe regarding health literacy and older patients. The aim is to develop lessons or ‚learning units‘ that will be made available in traditional course formats, and via online courses. The feedback from the surveys is incorporated into the further development of learning units.
„This topic is of great relevance, I would be very pleased to have lively participation“, says Prof. Lippke. Her team includes Dr. Amanda Whittal, who has already conducted a substantial amount of research on the subject: „From studies with doctors and patients, we know that successful treatment is more than just providing information. Doctors and nurses have to communicate optimally despite time and resource limitations“. In order to be able to provide the right approaches for this, the needs situation should be determined in this survey.
