“Several recent studies in economics have tried to establish whether a causal relationship between education and health exists”, says Professor Martin Karlsson of the University of Duisburg-Essen. “Our conference aims at analyzing the complex education-health nexus more closely, by looking at issues such as the multidimensionality of health, and at the role played by cognitive abilities, personality and family background in this relationship.”
The conference also covers topics such as the relationship between mental and physical health: what are the effects of physical and mental health on school performance or on personality traits? How does culture mediate the relationship between education and health, and how does schooling affect the perception of health?
